THE BOOK OF THE MIDNIGHT HOURS
This project was to highlight typography and storytelling. I chose a typeface and created a fictionalized story around it. This required deep research of the typeface I chose. I decided on Adobe Jensen Pro which is a very old typeface with a new updated look. To tie back to this concept, I decided to base my design and story on the old roots of the typeface which originally was a renaissance type. Being a typeface-based project, I thought it important to make all the elements out of type. The border is completely made from letterforms. The symbol near the bottom shows the seal of the man who created the typeface, giving it another old-fashioned appearance. I then decided to take another archaic twist on the project and center my story around a masquerade ball where the type was humanized. He went around the party and gave clues to his identity which, in the process, informs the reader about the history of the typeface. By the end, you are to guess the typeface/his identity.
