ISLAND OF THE LOST RICHES
48 Hour Film Challenge
For this project I took the 48-hour video challenge. It is a challenge where people are given a genre at random and are to create any kind of video around that genre. I received action-adventure for my topic and knew instantly that I wanted to do something resembling a movie trailer. I had recently heard the story of Byron Preiss who was a real-life individual who hid boxes containing a key which, once found, Preiss would in turn give the finder a rare gem. He wrote the book The Secret which contained all his clues and one is said to be in Wisconsin but has never been found. I took the basis of this tale and made my own version called the Island of the Lost Riches where the book leads instead to a treasure island instead. I restricted myself to only use free video and free sound. I was further challenged to include at least some of my own audio and to use at least three different pieces of soundtrack in the final project. The loud beat in the overlaid song which may sound like a drum is actually me dropping my bag on a hard floor. I also wanted to add my own personal hand in the video so I put my illustration work inside by drawing over the mountain and island at the end of the video to resemble that of a treasure map. I very much enjoyed this project and gaining a strong understanding of After Effects.
