BINGO DINO DNA!
Designed for the film Jurassic Park and for Universal Studios
The first time I got acquainted with Hot Topic’s t-shirt contest was in 2018 with a Universal Jurassic Park contest. I wanted to illustrate the key object in the film, the amber containing the mosquito with the dinosaur DNA. I pulled inspiration from several images of the amber and put them together for my design. I uploaded it to a website where others could see, vote, and comment on any of the designs submitted. I was surprised to see that this design was voted very high among the other designers in the contest. The winners were announced shortly after voting ended and I did not receive a spot in the top designs. It wasn’t until months later that I received an email that completely took me by surprise. Universal was impressed with the number of votes I had received from my designs and asked me for the rights so they could put it on Hot Topic along with the other shirts from the contest. I accepted and this design was put up online exclusively in a variety of different colors and is still available today.
